Fred Pfeiffer : the Black Eagle - 1971

by John Peter Nugent
Colonel Hubert Pauntleroy Julian
is the Black Eagle.

Sometimes finding Fred's name is like
looking for the Bunny on the
cover of Playboy. I like the background here.

I found this book in the biography section of a used book store I have gone to for many years in Villa Park, Illinois.

It shows that Pfeiffer books can and have been found in just about every section of a book store: Plays, poetry, War, Mystery, Romance, Historical Romance, Sci Fi, Action, Movies, Fiction, etc. It takes several hours to comb a used book store looking for Pfeiffers!

In my phone calls with Len Leone, he mentioned that he gave Fred "editorial work". I'm sure that meant that he gave Fred all types of miscellaneous work, and that is proved by all the different genres of books that are represented in my Pfeiffer collection.

I'm constantly amazed at what you find looking for his work. This has what I love about Fred's work, those lovely wide brush strokes. Flat color shapes next to each other that create such wonderful forms. I think it was Bob Larkin that told me Fred used very wide brushes.
