Fred Pfeiffer : American Primitive - 1972

by William Gibson
A Pfeiffer still life illustration.
a rare and splendid piece indeed.

I can't remember seeing Fred do this type of
illustration again. This is a rare find and Courtney
deserves a pat o the back for spotting this. I love
it and it shows that Fred could take on any cover
project and create. He was versatile and had to
be an art directors dream come true.

It just goes to show that if you are searching for Pfeiffer covers, you have to look in every category of the used bookstore! This one showed up the the Plays section.

Len Leone said that he gave Fred alot of editorial assignments. And Len did love his versatility. Here are Len's comments:

"Fred was much more to me than a damn good illustrator. From the very beginning we became good friends. He was a gifted artist that could move in many different directions of cover art. He enjoyed the challenge of taking on a variety of subject matter. He was an expert composer of pictures with a marvelous instinct for drawing exceptionally well. And, with all the work and variety I gave him, he never missed a single deadline." -Letter from Len Leone 10/12/07
