Pfeiffer certainly liked using the purple. In most of his early covers this is featured, and even the Doc Savage "The Mystery on the Snow" cover has alot of purple. Then he switched to the orange/burnt umber!
When I first picked up this book, I thought the shadow of the man was Steve Holland, both in pose and shape of the head.
