Fred Pfeiffer : Doc Savage - the Derrick Devil - 1973

by Lester Dent writing as Kenneth Robeson
WOW...Fred went all out here.
this cover is another epic piece.
Fred would use this blue for flesh several
other times on projects outside the
Doc cover here. Doc looks Electric.

This book has a very complete design
scheme. The landscape, the derrick tower,
the orange that represents the blob in the
story and Doc in the foreground..

The blue Doc is really cool. He is blue again on the cover of #76 - The Black Spot.

The derrick tower is impressive and I like the angle of it. I also like the angry sky and wispy clouds and the slash of orange. It certainly is a colorful cover.

I feel that the cover effectiveness is lessened by the color of the logo and color of the title. The cover is colorful enough without the orange logo and yellow title. I don't believe there was another yellow title in the whole series. Simple black and white would have been better.

I think a black Doc logo and white title would make this book cover much better.

Scotty - should try it in photo shop and see how it looks! Maybe try other color variations to find the most compatible.
