The United Nations building is in the back ground.
This looks like a quickie to me, and one done at a fairly small size, probably no larger than 10 x 15 inches. What's most interesting to me is that just about every postcard and official news photo of the United Nations building in the 60's showed it from this exact angle. I can remember that well, because I had one of those stereoscopic 3-d viewers back in the early 60's, and someone gave me a set of slides of prominent sites in the U.S. Naturally, the UN building was included in the collection, shown from exactly this same vantage point, and I subsequently observed that every time I saw a picture of that building it was always from this angle. So, I'm not at all surprised to see that Fred must've illustrated it from one of those same photos.
This book was another of the ones I had in my collection. I remember the girl's legs better than I remember the UN building...but that's only normal.
The image size on the painting for Advise and Consent (and Throne of Saturn , also) is aproximately 12.5" x 13". Since this book cover illustration is from the same series of 3, I would imagine it would be the like size as the others.
