Fred Pfeiffer : Doc Savage - the Crimson Serpent - 1974

Written by Harold A Davis as Kenneth Robeson
published in August 1939 in pulp form and again
in Oct. 74 for Bantam books and Doc Savage #
78.

this is a interesting cover. I like the tension that
Fred creates here. there is a monster in the swamp
and no it's not Doc Savage. This cover is often
criticized because it is dark and hard t make out.
I would love to see the original. I bet it's much
brighter and I would love to see whats going on
under the title legend. I like it.. The story wasn't to
bad for a Davis effort.

This is a very moody and evocative cover. Once again, Pfeiffer has Doc standing still yet he seems to be poised on the verge of action. One can easily visualize the boat rounding the bend and Doc pouncing on the inhabitants.

I love the reflective water and the eeriness of the tall and obscuring trees. Another great piece by Mr. Pfeiffer.
