Yes, that much red would make any book cover stand out prominently on a book rack, even the paperbacks given the lowest priority position on a rack. A bold and effective design for sure.
Fred's "brushwork?" on the figures reminds me of a similar style I recently noticed on cover art for a VHS copy of the 1969 Walter Matthau/Jack Lemmon movie THE ODD COUPLE, taken no doubt from a movie poster of that period. While the whole painting for that piece was not too similar to Fred's style, the figure of Matthau clearly showed brushwork remarkably similar to Fred's. It makes me wonder if he might've had a hand in the creation of that movie poster.

The red color really stands out on a white background. Len Leone pioneered and really liked the white back grounds.
The cloth of the Nazi flag is clearly Pfeiffer and the nice signature on the left confirmed it.
