Illustration that Fred did. The color is
almost exactly the same. Maybe he

Well this was a Marvelous find by Mr. Rogers
Courtney has come up with some very
interesting thoughts as to the origin of this
piece and Bob Larkin as added to it. I will
let Courtney explain in the comments. I love this

I found this book while doing a Bantam book search on eBay. This cover colors looked so similar to High Lonesome, that I knew it must be a Pfeiffer.
Plus, the figure looks so much like Doc Savage.
I have a theory (another one!) regarding the Doc Savage #81 - The Stone Man cover from 1976 that re-used the South Pole Terror cover art. Pfeiffer's last original Doc cover was #80 - The King Maker from February 1975. The Doc Savage book publication took a hiatus for a year after The King Maker, supposedly the first time that Bantam was planning to quit the series.
This book came out in Sept. 1975, so I think it might have been slated for The Stone Man before the series was suspended. I think Fred took the Doc Savage planned cover and then re-did some of it to turn it into the cover you see here.
I sent this cover to Bob Larkin for comment, and he said "That's a Fred Pfeiffer with Steve Holland painted as a zombie Doc Savage!"
That Bob Larkin comment is classic!
The theory makes sense to me!
