There is the early Pfeiffer purple on the man's tunic.

The classic Pfeiffer signature is located along the Queen's blue cape on the right side of the illo.

Nice fire!

This might very well have been one of the paperbacks in my old (now lost) collection. It looks so familiar, but there were other cover illustrations Fred had done that utilized an ornate frame to hold the design together, and I remember Fred saying that he had this large profusely-illustrated book on European antique furniture. He said it came in very handy as a reference whenever he needed to add a touch of ornateness to an architectural element or object in one of his designs. I'd almost bet that's what he used when designing this frame.

I love the design, execution, and especially the color scheme of both main elements, but wish they hadn't actually been separate from each other in this painting, although from a "book design" standpoint I can clearly understand why it was done this way. It perhaps makes it more "effective" to have designed it this way.
