Rita, by Jason Hytes. This book had an earlier printing so Fred's would have been for a reprint and most likely looking at the art might have been produced in the early 1970s.
Through the excellent new friendship we have made with George Ladas, the Pfeiffer Pfiles has put together a nice example of Fred's early work and a look into how he prodruced some of his illustrations. Featured are some model's photos that Fred used to create the cover for Rita.
We have another Pfeiffer friend in Ruben at Paperback Art. He has the original to the book. We get a nice look at the original. Thanks, Ruben.
The Models
We also find out with this original painting that Fred had a rubber stamp that showed up on the back of some of his paintings.

This was an amazing coincidence. No sooner does Ruben make us aware of a new paperback and original painting (thanks Ruben!), then George Ladas sends us some model shots that belong to the very painting (thanks George!)
It is very satisfying to have a reference shot, actual painting, and the paperback the painting graces. Very nice!
I believe this paperback is from 1967, which would make it the oldest Pfeiffer paperback that we have located so far.
And if I'm not mistaken, that's Steve "Doc Savage" Holland in the model shots.
