So glad you shared this preparatory pencil drawing with us Scotty. I'm always interested in the additional insight that a sketch or drawing can give about an artist's technique. It's always been my belief, based on simple logic perhaps, that the more work one puts into preparatory drawings the better the final painting is bound to be, although I have seen a few examples of where an artist did little in the way of pre-planning on the sketch pad, yet still managed to create a beautiful painting. In this case however, you ALSO created a very impressive "final" piece of art, a very beautiful work of art, and right here we can see one of the reasons for that, a marvelous drawing that clearly shows attention to the critical step of shading. Well done.
