This cover is indeed electric. Who could not want to pick this book up and look at it.

This illustration was given an award at the Society of Illustrators and was included in the annual book.

A nice bold Pfeiffer signature is featured at the lower right corner.

Completely disregarding the subject matter or story for which this was created, and judging it totally on its artistic merits, I consider this a Pfeiffer masterpiece. This is truly a beautiful painting. It is very much a meshing of traditional and abstract art, and what's signifigant about that is what Fred had told me long ago about "wanting" to go off in a more abstract direction as a means of personal expression.

In other words, Fred was simply saying that if he painted purely for self expression...painted what he WANTED to paint...his art would've been much more abstract in appearance than anything we've seen by him on all these paperback covers.

Clearly, he's attempted to seek an opportunity for self expression in many of the backgrounds and even foregrounds he's painted, and has even shown a yearn for the more abstract in the way he's fused together the various figures and elements in many of his designs. But, the work pictured here is a masterpiece of combining what he had to do with what he wanted to do.
