GEORGE LADAS
George Thomas Ladas passed away on September 15, 2024 at the age of 88. A friend described George as a "Renaissance man." He was both watercolor artist and storyboard artist, an art director, inventor, illustrator, teacher, musician and children's book author. He worked at the advertising companies J W Thompson and BBDO in New York. He created architectural timepieces, industrial design and animated fiber optic displays. He illustrated the Hubble Space telescope for NASA and designed a 47-foot animated Trojan horse that was displayed in the Forum at Las Vegas. One of his timepiece designs is in the permanent collection of MoMA. George grew up in Roselle, New Jersey. He attended Cornell University, the Art Center College of Design and the University of California. He lived for many years in New York but returned to Roselle, NJ at the end of his life. George was known for his sense of humor and creativity. He was a good friend who is missed by all who knew him, especially Jane.
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of George Ladas. I just found out this week. Usually, I communicated several times a year with George, but I hadn't been able to get him. Now, I know. George and Fred were like brothers. It was a great day when he reached out several years ago. I never got to meet him in person, but he was surely a great man. Be good, George.
The children's book listed above was recently written and illustrated by George and is available on Amazon. The old photo is George taken at Art Center School in the early 60's, and taken from his Full Circle blog.
